How to Treat Pain

Just like how every pet is unique, the same is true for their pain. What hurts will be differed, the triggers are different, the way they cope is different and what will work to manage the pain will be different.

The goal of using acupuncture through the chronic pain clinic is to deliver a bespoke and holistic management plan for the treatment of painful conditions in pets.

Acupuncture Clinic

The goal of using acupuncture through the chronic pain clinic is to deliver a bespoke management plan for the treatment of painful conditions in pets. The core of my patients are cats and dogs but any small companion animal species is welcome.

Consultations are by appointment only. Message via email or the online contact form to enquire.

Initial Consultation

The first consultation is an extended session. This will give me a chance to get to know you and your pet, take a history and perform a thorough mobility and joint examination and pain assessment.

We can then discuss how acupuncture can help with the issues at hand and come up with a treatment plan.

Your pet will then receive their first treatment, which is usually just a gentle introduction to acupuncture for them.

At the follow-up appointments

we will discuss updates on you pet's progress. A targeted repeat examination can be done but this is not necessary every time.

Follow-Up

These treatment sessions will last up to 30 minutes while your pet receives their treatment. It is common to need 4-6 treatments at weekly intervals to start to see the improvements we expect. Then once we are all happy that your pet is showing these improvements, treatment sessions can start to be spread out.

Clinic Days

Once a week a pet pain clinic day is held at St Andrew's Rugby Club in Rugby. Consultations are by appointment only. After an initial assessment session, which includes the first treatment, a minimum of three additional treatment sessions are recommended to see if acupuncture is helping your pet.

Home Visits

I appreciate that there are some scenarios where it is not easy or ideal to be transporting pets to a treatment session at the clinic. Home visits can therefore be arranged.

Home visits are all subject to availability. I will try my best but cannot guarantee that a home visit will be possible or will be available at your pets normal treatment frequency.
